Overview

This resource brings together candid interviews with patients and family members who have faced the life-altering impact of aortic dissection, whether through their own diagnosis or the devastating loss of a loved one. Each story sheds light on the emotional and psychological challenges that accompany this condition, offering a personal glimpse into the profound trauma, grief and resilience experienced by those affected.

From the shock of a sudden diagnosis to navigating the aftermath of surgery, these interviews explore the ongoing mental health struggles, including anxiety, PTSD, and the long-term effects on relationships and daily life. Family members share their journeys of coping with loss, the enduring grief and the ways in which they keep their loved ones’ memories alive.

Led by Personal Stories, Supported by Professional Expertise

This series is supported by Dr Mark Griffiths, Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Clinical Health Psychology Services at Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. Dr Griffiths provides expert insights into the psychological toll of aortic dissection and offers guidance on the importance of seeking emotional support, recognising trauma, and managing mental health during and after recovery.

Through these heartfelt conversations, we aim to raise awareness of the psychological impact of aortic dissection and offer comfort to those going through similar experiences.
