Martin
In March 2020, Martin’s life took an unexpected turn during a routine run when he experienced a sudden aortic dissection. Thanks to the quick thinking of a consultant and the skilled surgical team at Wythenshawe Hospital, Martin’s life was saved. His recovery has been nothing short of remarkable, with Martin channelling his energy into regaining his fitness and raising awareness of aortic dissection.
Recently, Martin and his wife Fiona completed an incredible challenge: walking the entire 630-mile South West Coast Path. Their trek, named “Walking in My Shoes,” was both a personal triumph and a mission to raise awareness and funds for aortic dissection research. The journey was demanding but deeply rewarding, as they inspired others and helped shine a light on this often misdiagnosed condition. Through their efforts, they have not only raised vital funds but also offered hope to those affected by aortic dissection.
“To be told that something had happened that was worse than a heart attack was simply staggering. I think it’s really important for people to be aware of the clinical process and the good practices that I experienced.”
