Calling all tennis fans – the annual John Hampson Tournament returns in 2025 at Cheadle Kingsway Tennis Club, celebrating the life of a much-loved club member. John Hampson was a keen and enthusiastic tennis player who brought energy, warmth and encouragement to every match. He was particularly known for supporting junior players and being a central figure at club social events. His sudden death in January 2022 from an aortic rupture came as a devastating shock to the community.
To honour his memory in a way that reflects his active spirit, the club hosts an annual tournament instead of a traditional memorial bench. Players compete in eight colour-themed teams, Team J to Team N, spelling out J H A M P S O N. Each team includes four women and four men, with play organised to ensure fairness and enjoyment for all participants, regardless of ability.
The tournament also raises funds for the charity, supporting vital awareness, education and research into aortic conditions.
The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust sends its best wishes for good weather and a fantastic turnout for this special tournament in John’s memory.
