Aortic Dissection Research Grant Awards 2024

Join us on Aortic Dissection Awareness Day to discover ground-breaking research, hear from esteemed experts, and learn how you can contribute to aortic dissection research.

On the evening of Aortic Dissection Awareness Day UK time, September 19th, we are thrilled to unveil the successful research grant projects awarded by the Research Advisory Group. This event is an opportunity for those interested in understanding more about the projects and for patients, families, and the medical community to get involved.

In our ongoing mission to improve diagnosis, increase survival rates, and reduce disability due to aortic dissection, The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust has been steadfast in supporting clinical trials and postgraduate research that push the boundaries of aortic research. This year, we received an impressive array of high-quality research grant proposals, reflecting the growing interest and innovation in this critical field.

We are honoured to have Dr Kim A. Eagle, Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the Cardiovascular Centre at the University of Michigan, as our keynote speaker for the evening. A globally respected cardiologist and researcher, Dr Eagle has profoundly influenced the understanding and treatment of aortic dissection through his leadership of the International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection (IRAD), which he co-founded in 1996. IRAD has become an indispensable resource for studying the epidemiology, management, and outcomes of acute aortic dissection, and Dr Eagle’s ongoing work continues to drive international collaboration and improvements in patient care.

During his keynote address, Dr Eagle will discuss the critical role of ‘pump priming’ research – funding that enables innovative ideas to develop and gather preliminary data, setting the stage for larger, more comprehensive studies.

This year, three exceptional projects have been selected for funding, focusing on improving diagnosis, enhancing the quality of life for patients, and using technology to better predict the progression of aortic disease. More details will be announced on the 19th.

Dr Colin Bicknell, Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Head of Specialty at the Imperial Vascular Unit, and Chair of the Research Advisory Group, will officially announce and introduce the 2024 research grant winners. This announcement will spotlight the innovative research that our community’s contributions have made possible.

The engagement and involvement of our community are essential for progress in aortic dissection research. Whether you are a patient, family member, or medical professional, your participation is vital in shaping a new future for patients through research.
