Clinical Negligence Policy and Patient Safety

The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust will join expert voices at a Westminster forum addressing clinical negligence reform and patient safety.

This Westminster Health Forum policy conference will explore the future direction of clinical negligence policy in the NHS, focusing on cost management, legal reform and improving patient safety. It brings together key voices from law, healthcare, government and patient advocacy.

We are pleased to share that The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust will be participating as part of the expert panel, advocating on behalf of aortic dissection patients and their families. Our contribution will highlight the unique challenges faced in diagnosis, treatment, and the aftermath of clinical negligence in this rare but life-threatening condition.

Key topics include

  • Implementing the Clinical Negligence Claims Agreement 2024

  • Containing legal costs while ensuring fair access to justice

  • NHS Resolution’s 2025–2028 strategy and early resolution mechanisms

  • The impact of litigation on NHS staff and professional regulation

  • Patient safety initiatives, including Martha’s Rule and a proposed no-fault compensation scheme

Speakers include NHS Resolution, the Medical Defence Union, Patient Safety Learning, clinical leads, legal professionals, and senior parliamentarians.

This is a key opportunity for stakeholders to engage with policy developments and to support a more transparent, fair, and patient-centred approach to safety and resolution in the NHS.
