Interdisciplinary Aortic Dissection Symposium

The IADS this September offers invaluable insights and collaboration opportunities for medical professionals.

This event promises to be of immense value to the aortic dissection community. IADS is an innovative one-day symposium that offers a unique platform for medical professionals to discuss the latest advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of aortic dissection.

IADS brings together internationally recognised experts to foster scientific and educational exchange. This year, the symposium welcomes vascular and cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional radiologists, allied healthcare professionals, and trainee colleagues. The event aims to enhance the management of aortic dissection and improve patient outcomes through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Highlights of the Symposium Include:

  • Aortic Dissection Toolkit Review: Rachel Bell, Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, will review the impact so far of the NHS Acute Aortic Dissection Toolkit.
  • EARNEST Study Update: Prof Colin Bicknell, Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Imperial Vascular Unit and chair of the AD Research Advisory Group, will provide updates on the EARNEST Study. This research investigates whether the composite outcome of death, major stroke, paralysis, or serious heart and lung illness is lower in the TEVAR group compared to the normal care group, and if this method offers good value for money within the NHS. Trustee of the charity, Pauline Latham, secured the NIHR funding for this research, and the charity is heavily involved in the design and delivery of patient and public involvement.
  • IMPROVE-AD Project Update: Firas Mussa will update attendees on the IMPROVE-AD project, a significant US-based randomised clinical trial exploring the use of TEVAR in managing uncomplicated TBAD with high-risk features.
  • Expert Discussions: The symposium will feature talks from other notable speakers, including Prof Aung Oo, a member of the AD Research Advisory Group and Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery and Clinical Lead for Aortovascular Surgery at The Barts Heart Centre, and Geoff Tsang, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

This event is an excellent opportunity for healthcare professionals interested in the management of aortic dissection to engage in debates, learn about upcoming trials, and discuss real-life challenging cases with their peers.

Join the Interdisciplinary Aortic Dissection Symposium to stay at the forefront of aortic dissection management and contribute to the collective effort to improve patient care. For more information and to register, please visit the conference website.
