On the evening of Aortic Dissection Awareness Day UK time, September 19th, we are thrilled to unveil the successful research grant projects awarded by our Research Advisory Group. This event is an opportunity for those interested in understanding more about the projects and for patients, families, and the medical community to get involved.
In our mission to improve diagnosis, increase survival and reduce disability due to aortic dissection, the Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust has been at the forefront of providing clinical trial and postgraduate research funding for groundbreaking aortic research.
Biomedical Research
We are honoured to have not just one, but two distinguished speakers open our webinar. The Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, will kick off the event, followed by Professor Lord Kakkar KBE, Chair of the UK Biobank. Lord Kakkar will discuss how the UK Biobank’s large-scale biomedical database can advance research in aortic dissection. It’s a groundbreaking moment for all of us committed to improving lives affected by this condition.
This year, we have received a large number of high-quality research grant proposals. The RAG Chair, Dr Colin Bicknell, Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Head of Specialty at the Imperial Vascular Unit, will announce and introduce the 2023 research grant winners.
Let’s also take a moment to celebrate the achievements of last year’s research grant winners. These researchers have made exceptional strides in understanding and treating aortic dissection.
- Development of a Core Outcome Set for Type B Aortic Dissection
- Understanding the Impact of Time from Acute Aortic Dissection to Surgical Repair on Inflammation and Post-repair Healing
- Predicting Successful Outcomes Following TEVAR for Aortic Dissection
