Ready to build on the momentum of our successful involvement in previous RCEM events, the Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust is gearing up for another major event. We’re thrilled to announce our participation in the upcoming Annual Scientific Conference in Glasgow, 26th-28th September 2023.
During the conference, we’re excited to present our latest research: A Survey of Current Policy Regarding the Recognition and Management of Acute Aortic Syndrome in Great Britain. This timely and vital work examines the current landscape of acute aortic syndrome management policies in the UK.
In conducting this research, we’ve identified both strengths and gaps within the current approach to treating this complex condition. These findings are driving changes in government policy and offering strategies to further enhance patient outcomes. The Annual Scientific Conference in Glasgow serves as an excellent platform to share these crucial findings with a diverse group of emergency medicine professionals.
DAShED results
One of the highlights of this year’s Annual Scientific Conference is the presentation of the findings from the Diagnosis of Acute Aortic Syndrome in the Emergency Department (DAShED) study. This project has been a significant undertaking and we’ve been actively involved from the outset.
Led by Dr Rachel McLatchie from NHS Lothian and Professor Matt Reed from the University of Edinburgh, the DAShED study is an observational cohort research funded by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine. The study focuses on patients visiting emergency departments with symptoms consistent with acute aortic dissection. The results will provide invaluable insights into the diagnosis of AD in emergency departments, paving the way for more efficient and effective diagnostic strategies.
Our ongoing relationship with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine is a cornerstone of our efforts at the charity. This partnership hit its stride last year, with a study day focused on acute aortic dissection. The event, titled Acute Aortic Dissection: Diagnosis and Initial Management, took place on 7th June 2022 at the RCEM’s headquarters.
The day was dedicated to tackling some of the significant challenges that arise in diagnosing acute aortic dissection, a notoriously tricky condition to identify promptly and accurately. The discussions didn’t stop at diagnosis. New approaches to both the diagnosis and initial management of acute aortic dissection were also explored, leading to stimulating conversations and valuable learnings.
Join us in London, on 7 June, to learn more on the challenges of making the diagnosis of acute aortic dissection, new approaches to diagnosis and initial management once the diagnosis is made.
