Join us later this month on this AortaEd webinar, organised in partnership with the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM). This educational session aims to equip emergency and front-line medical professionals with the knowledge and tools to improve patient outcomes.
During the webinar, we will delve into topics including
- Understanding the presentation of acute aortic dissection
- Strategies to enhance diagnostic accuracy
- Exploring potential innovative diagnostic approaches
- A discussion on patient management after diagnosis
- Insights into long-term outcomes of aortic dissection
Acute aortic dissection is a critical medical condition that can be challenging to diagnose, especially in an emergency setting. With this in mind, EUSEM is keen to include a comprehensive learning session as part of their EM Monthly webinars, held on the last Thursday of the month.
Kicking off the event, Catherine Fowler will provide an overview and share her impactful story. Following this, Graham Cooper will discuss the “Epidemiology and Pathophysiology” of acute aortic dissection, providing crucial insight into the nature and occurrence of this condition.
Building on this foundation, Professor Matt Reed will discuss the complex characteristics of patients who were misdiagnosed initially, and will also present the latest findings from his research at EMERGE; the Emergency Medicine Research Group of Edinburgh.
The vital role of radiology will be highlighted by Dr Felix Döllinger, followed by Dr Eva Göncz who will guide us through the crucial steps of immediate management post-diagnosis.
The presentations will conclude with a Q&A session giving participants the chance to share their experiences and ask questions to the speakers. We invite all emergency medical specialists to attend this webinar.
EUSEM 2022
This AortaEd session builds on the success of the charity’s sessions at the European Emergency Medicine Congress. EUSEM22, held in CityCube Berlin, was a fantastic opportunity to share our work on a European stage. Over 3,000 emergency medicine specialists attended this event, engaging in thoughtful dialogues, gaining new knowledge, and bringing their own experiences and perspectives to the table.
Our team was thrilled to present sessions at the congress, focusing on various aspects of aortic dissection. One key emphasis was on patient-centred research, education and engagement in emergency medicine. We believe that patients are at the heart of everything we do, and their experiences and insights are invaluable in improving diagnostic and treatment strategies.
As we continue to collaborate with EUSEM, including through this upcoming webinar, we hope to further advance emergency medicine learning, teaching and innovating, and to make a real difference for patients with aortic dissection.
