Multidisciplinary Approaches to Navigating BAV Aortopathy

This event marks a critical juncture in the journey towards tailored treatment for Bicuspid Aortic Valve (BAV) patients.

BAV is the most common congenital heart defect, affecting up to 2% of the population. It’s a condition that can often lead to the development of aortic aneurysms, and, in turn, patients are offered early surgical repair based on current guidelines. However, the focus is shifting, thanks to pioneering research from the University of Liverpool, revealing that many BAV patients have structurally sound aortas, potentially challenging the necessity for conventional surgical intervention.

This event aims to bridge the gap between current practices and future possibilities, bringing together key stakeholders, including patients, surgeons and industry experts. We aim to encourage discussion, exchange knowledge, and collect further evidence that advocates for more personalised, minimally invasive treatment options for aortopathy in BAV patients.

By re-evaluating when and how we intervene surgically, we stand to not only enhance the quality of life for individuals living with BAV but also to alleviate the long-term risks associated with traditional open-heart surgeries. The goal is to establish a framework for personalised surgical treatment, reducing the need for unnecessary operations and paving the way for the development of early screening and diagnostic biomarkers.

By 2028, our ambition is to have established a new standard of care, where BAV patients receive surgery tailored to their specific condition, minimizing unnecessary risk and improving overall outcomes.

Your participation is crucial in shaping this future, driving forward the research that will inform tomorrow’s treatment protocols.

Join us in this collaborative effort to transform the treatment landscape for BAV patients, championing personalised care and establishing a new benchmark for heart health.
