We are thrilled to look back on the tremendous success of the aortic careers day, My Aorta My Future. This biomedical outreach event, organised in partnership with the University of Liverpool and hosted by Everton in the Community, took place on 3rd May 2023 at Everton FC. The event aimed to inspire underrepresented students to explore the exhilarating world of biomedical research and uncover the myriad of captivating career opportunities within this field. With an overwhelming response and a day filled with engaging activities, insightful discussions, and invaluable connections, the event left a lasting impact on all who attended.

Sharing Knowledge and Inspiring Curiosity
Throughout the day, students from Liverpool schools and the surrounding area had the opportunity to get a taste of scientific research careers through a variety of interactive workshops, practical activities, and networking opportunities with a focus on aortic dissection. Renowned researchers and accomplished surgeons from diverse backgrounds shared their personal experiences and insights, leaving the students inspired and motivated to pursue careers in biomedical research. The event fostered a sense of curiosity and ignited a passion for exploring the frontiers of scientific discovery.

Championing Diversity and Inclusion in Biomedical Research
Diversity and inclusion were at the heart of the My Aorta My Future. With a focus on underrepresented communities and students from low-income households, the event aimed to bridge the gap and showcase equal opportunities for all. By showcasing scientists and professionals from diverse backgrounds, students were able to see first-hand the power of representation and the importance of diversity in scientific research.
