The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust will be attending the RCGP Annual Conference and Exhibition 2026, joining more than 2,000 GPs and primary care professionals from across the UK.
The conference provides an important opportunity for the Trust to engage directly with primary care professionals and raise awareness of aortic dissection. GPs have an important role throughout the patient pathway, from recognising a possible acute aortic dissection to supporting patients and families with ongoing care following diagnosis and treatment.
We will be attending the conference in partnership with the Marfan Trust, reflecting our shared commitment to supporting people and families affected by aortic and inherited connective tissue conditions.
Supporting Aortic Dissection Care in Primary Care
At the conference, we will be highlighting our Aortic Dissection Field Guide for Primary Care, developed in collaboration with the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (PCCS).
The guide supports GPs and primary care teams with practical information about aortic dissection and the ongoing needs of patients. It forms part of the Trust’s work to improve consistency of care across the whole patient pathway through education, policy change and research.
The guide includes contributions from Dr Victoria McKay, Consultant Clinical Geneticist at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and Dr Bejal Pandya, Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Health NHS Foundation Trust.
By working with the PCCS and engaging directly with primary care professionals at the RCGP Annual Conference, we hope to strengthen understanding of aortic dissection and help improve care for patients across the UK and Ireland.
