Flash Theatre Productions Hereford is set to perform an unforgettable three-night run of “Tick, Tick… Boom!”, Jonathan Larson’s captivating semi-autobiographical musical. Set in the heart of 1990s New York City, this compelling tale follows Jon, a young composer wrestling with ambition, love, and the pressure of time as he approaches his 30th birthday. With its electrifying score and deeply personal lyrics, the production speaks to the universal struggle of chasing dreams against the clock.
This performance also pays homage to Larson’s legacy as the creator of the iconic “Rent”, which reshaped the landscape of musical theatre. Tragically, Jonathan Larson’s own life was cut short by an aortic dissection, caused by undiagnosed Marfan syndrome. His passing, which came just before the premiere of “Rent”, highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and early diagnosis of aortic conditions.
Marfan syndrome significantly increases the risk of aortic dissection – up to 250 times that of the general population – yet many remain undiagnosed. By sharing Larson’s story, this production seeks not only to honour his genius but also to spotlight the importance of timely diagnosis and intervention for aortic health.
